Hi there, my name is Jack, I am a Composer, Coach and Bristol Music Teacher specialising in Piano, Saxophones, Flute, Composition, Conducting and Music Theory.

I have 7+ years of teaching experience and work with individuals at all levels of music ability. I truly tailor my approach around my student, so lessons evolve around how you learn. Whether you are after a solid grounding in the fundamentals of Jazz harmony, Classical theory & composition or want to develop incredible listening skills, throughout my teaching I pursue each individual’s natural passions & talent, helping them to lay the foundations of musical awareness in a way that is natural to them.

What I expect from my students.

Where do you want to go with your music? You can be sure that lessons will always be working toward your musical goals. As a teacher I strive to make those goals happen quickly and effectively. As such though, I require students to turn up with a strong idea of why they are there and what they want to achieve. Whether it’s to learn and enjoy music slowly & privately or to found your own orchestra – I don’t mind

Whilst I never force students to practise, I do focus a lot on how you practise. It may sound funny, but many of us are never taught how to do it well. Whilst we may be taught the instrument and the theory, my work I believe is different as I have a strong focus on how to practise more deeply & effectively and most important of all – how to keep on enjoying music!

  • “My 12 year old wanted to give up the piano when we found Jack, now he even practices without being asked most days. Jack just seemed to understand what was going on in his head.”

    Student’s Mum

  • “It’s like going to see a nice big brother but you learn stuff too.”

    Student (12)

  • “Jack is an excellent teacher, patient and insightful. And perhaps as important, he is a lovely person and is always learning himself. I’d pay him to teach anyone I know.”
